It doesn't matter, because this 'dummy' app will never be installed anyway. I usually point to a folder containing nothing but a 'dummy.cmd', that does nothing but return a zero exit code. You have to specify a content folder and install command for the 'dummy' app deployment type. This way, any older version of Notepad++ is detected and updated automatically. You then create a supersedence relationship between the new app and the 'dummy' app, and deploy the new app with the 'Automatic upgrade' option enabled. You also create a 'Notepad dummy' app (or update it if you already have one), with a detection method that checks if the DisplayVersion in the registry is less than '8.5.7'. You create an app for it, with a detection method that checks if the DisplayVersion in the registry equals '8.5.7'. Let's say you're deploying Notepad++ 8.5.7.

I use a 'dummy' application for this, with a detection method that detects all old versions of the app I want to update, and then use supersedence to update those versions automatically.
